If you've seen History Bites on History Television for the past 5 years, you have seen Ron Pardo...well, not the real Ron Pardo. He has been disguised as David Letterman, Howard Stern, Don Cherry, Regis Philbin, Larry King, Jerry Seinfeld, Dennis Miller, Tom Brokaw, Ted Koppel, Archie Bunker, Ozzy Osbourne, and Captain Kirk to name a few. A Cambridge resident since 1983, Ron grew up in Pardoville (yes, named after his ancestors), a small farming community near Chatham, Ontario. He went to school in nearby Blenheim, working on the family farm and playing drums in local bands along the way. He studied Radio and Television at Ryerson in Toronto, followed by two years of working on-air and as a copywriter at CFCO Radio, Chatham. Then it was on to teacher's college in London, which precipitated the move to Cambridge with his wife and newborn son. He taught elementary school for the next 12 years. In 1985, they were blessed with their second child, a daughter. Ron discovered around the age of 10 that he had the ability to mimic various cartoon characters. As his voice matured, he found he could imitate celebrities as well. This skill served him well in the classroom. He would often make lessons entertaining by teaching as Homer Simpson or Arnold Schwarzenegger. In 1993, Ron decided to take this skill seriously. He wrote a 5-minute comedy act and went to amateur night at Yuk Yuk's. Nine months later, he won Yuk Yuk's Search For Canada's Funniest New Comic Award and his new career took off. In 1995 he resigned from teaching and since then he has performed his one man show for club and corporate audiences across Canada. His repertoire of impressions has grown to over 100. It was at one of these shows in 1997 that he came to the attention of Rick Green (The Red Green Show; The Frantics;, Prisoners of Gravity). Ron was selected to perform his many characters for the pilot episode of Rick's new show called History Bites in which Ron starred for 5 hilarious seasons, receiving a Gemini nomination in 2000. The series continues to run on History Television and The Comedy Network. Ron also voices radio and television commercials as well as various characters in several cartoon series, including Atomic Betty, Coolman, Bob and Margaret, Ripping Friends, Marvin the Tap-Dancing Horse, Moville Mysteries, Medabots, Berenstain Bears, Ned's Newt, and Cyberchase. Ron was also cast as the voices of Spongebob, Patrick, and Squidward for the Spongebob Squarepants Books on CD, available at Walmart stores across Canada. Ron also appears as Rudy, the Transit Enforcement Officer, on Global's "Train 48". In 2002, Ron made his Hollywood feature film debut as Chuck the newscaster in the Eddie Griffin comedy Undercover Brother. He is currently writing and performing the satirical Paul Martin/George W. Bush "Northern Lights Southern Exposure", "David Letterman Top 5 Lists", and "The Oakley Zone" heard each day on the John Oakley Morning Show, 640 Toronto. In addition to his one-man LIVE show, Ron also hosts corporate functions in full David Letterman, Don Cherry, Larry King etc. costume.. |
